Mackay Helicopters has been conducting marine pilot transfers in the Queensland region since 1984 making it the most experienced Marine Pilot Transfer business in Australia. Most recently Mackay Helicopters has been awarded the contract for Marine Pilot Transfer operations at Gladstone and Mackay for Maritime Safety Queensland. Part of the Aviator Group, Mackay Helicopters area of operation stretches from the bases at Mackay and Hamilton Island, to the inner and outer anchorage of Mackay / Hay Point and out to the Hydrographers Passage boarding ground of Blossom Bank, some 120 nautical miles from Mackay. Since 1984 Mackay Helicopters have provided Marine Pilot Transfers on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week basis.

The Old School House B&B & Mud Bath Oasis

The Old School House B&B is situated in Septimus, 10km South of Gargett in the delightful Pioneer Valley. This beautifully presented Bed and Breakfast is a short 45 minute scenic drive West of Mackay surrounded by flowing cane fields and mountain ranges, is close to National Parks, walking trails and waterfalls with swimming holes. There is plenty to do and see in the surrounds with local rainforest cafes a must, plus lots of local attractions including the infamous Platypus that inhabit the local waters. Formerly Septimus State School, this spacious home still retains the outer appearance and charm of the 1966 school building whilst inside boasts 2 large ensuited guest rooms each stylishly decorated to embrace time, era, comfort and luxury. A guest lounge area and full kitchen facilities are on offer, as well as, the large former ‘shelter-shed’ used for school assemblies that now serves as an outdoor alfresco dinning/ BBQ area for guests. The B&B also offers a unique Mud Bath experience at its very own Mud Bath Oasis, situated on site within the old school grounds just 40 meters from the house. Imagine yourself unwinding whilst soaking in a mineral rich silky clay Mud Bath in one of the outdoor gazebo huts to top off your stay. Day visitors are also welcome at the Mud Bath Oasis by appointment.

The Farmers’ Markets

The Farmers’ Markets will be a drawcard for locals and visitors alike to come into the Mackay City Centre to purchase fresh local produce as part of their weekly food shop. The market launched on 8th June and will be every Wednesday 2pm to 6pm at the Wood Street Park (3-5 Wood St) next to the heritage listed Pioneer Shire Building. The market will showcase our regions amazing produce giving farmers and value adders an opportunity to help grow our local food culture. We want everyone to benefit from the farmers’ market initiative and invite local restaurant owners to take part in our ‘Eat Local Wednesday’ campaign. On market day we encourage visitors to shop and dine local within the Mackay City Centre prior to the start of the markets and when they finish their market shopping.

Mackay City Racecourse Markets

Welcome to Mackay's Weekly Markets. Mackay Tiger Moth Museum Joy Flights

Joy Flights are available to the general public. You can enjoy the complete freedom of open cockpit flying in this rare vintage aircraft and see the the beauty of Mackay's sandy beaches, islands, the Pioneer Valley and the City of Mackay. You can choose a 20 minute, 30 minute or one hour flight to remember over the beautiful Mackay area. Flights operate most weekends from our hangar besides the Mackay Aero Club in Casey Avenue Mackay. Support was gathered from the Mackay community to purchase the Tiger Moth and the Trust (now the Museum) was formed to administer the operation. The Tiger Moth is owned by the Mackay community and has been christened the "City of Mackay" to confirm its ownership.

Caneland Central

Caneland Central is the largest shopping centre in the Mackay region and is conveniently located in the city centre and has been servicing the local region since 1979. Caneland offers the widest variety of retail stores with Myer, Target, Big W, Woolworths, Coles, and more than 220 specialty stores, including fashion, food, jewellery, homewares, pharmacy, banks, gifts and more. There is a large foodcourt overlooking the beautiful Pioneer River and a restaurant precinct that trades 7-nights a week.

Cape Palmerston National Park

Cape Palmerston National Park features sandy dunes, unspoilt beaches and rocky headlands, with Mount Funnel towering to 344 metres. Within its 7200 hectare expanse, this park protects a range of plant communities and threatened animals. The false water-mouse lives in the mangroves and beach stone-curlews frequent the shores. Both are considered threatened species. Enjoy nature in this remote, undeveloped park. Scramble up Cape Palmerston for breathtaking views towards the Northumberland Islands and Mount Funnel. Try your luck fishing or crabbing, but remember to be croc wise. Self-sufficient campers can bush camp at Windmill Bay or Cape Creek. Camping fees apply.

Nebo Hotel

Nebo Hotel, formerly named the Fort Cooper Hotel was first licensed in 1863, we were rebuilt again in 1886, still trading under the name the Fort Cooper Hotel, we became the Nebo Hotel in 1948 and we remain heritage listed to this day. We have always considered ourselves a "home away from home" for travelers, tourists and in more modern days the shift worker. At the Nebo Hotel we have accomodation for singles, ensuited rooms and hotel style rooms upstairs. Fully air-conditioned with Austar available.
